The Seahorse Tavern

First and foremost, The Seahorse Tavern is a live music venue and one of Halifax’s only sources of top quality original talent. Acts from all over are kicking the doors in to get on stage in front of a jam packed house, filled with cool people looking to get a taste of what is or will be the next big thing in the city. We also cater to private functions and have a wonderful back room for gatherings of all kinds.

Now open at our new location in north end Halifax, The Tavern is the live entertainment hotspot for the city. The club is no stranger to this sort of excitement, it’s been the hub of Halifax nightlife for many many years.

The Seahorse was the first establishment in the city granted a license to sell beer. That’s right, in the late 40s, if you wanted beer you would come to The Seahorse.

Over sixty years have passed since that fateful day and The Seahorse is still rocking! More bands, more events, more contests and prizes. Check back often to see what all the fuss is about, you won’t be disappointed.

The Marquee Ballroom

Our upstairs neighbour, The Marquee Ballroom, is also located at 2037 Gottingen St in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia. Originally opening as The Marquee Club in 1998 it gained a reputation as the best live club on Canada’s east coast. Some of the acts that played the Marquee over the years include Daniel Lanois, Billy Bragg, Guided By Voices, Jim Cuddy, Arcade Fire, The Tom Tom Club, Bloc Party, Ron Sexsmith and many others. The club also aided the careers of such local acts as Joel Plaskett, The Trews, Matt Mays and Wintersleep, to name just a few. The Marquee Club closed in 2009 and for several years the Paragon Theatre occupied the Gottingen Street space, continuing to provide Halifax with high quality shows.

In the spring of 2013 the venue opened as The Marquee Ballroom. Our goal is to showcase quality National, International and East Coast music and to be a facility available for use by the arts community as well as local promoters, non profit organizations and private groups.
